Training Church Clerks and Church Treasurers
May God continue to bless us as we work in His vineyard.

The BUC recently held a conference for Church Treasurers and Clerks from 15th – 17th May 2026 at the Leonardo Hotel, Hinckley Island in Leicestershire. The conference was well attended and churches were well represented from across the British Union Conference.
For treasurers our first presentation dealt with Stewardship and the importance of building trust with church members and was presented by our Stewardship Directors, Sister Cathy Boldeau (BUC) and Pastor Alex Mareniuc (SEC).

This was followed by Treasury Essentials, a lecture by Brother Victor Pilmoor (one of our previous BUC Treasurers) where we were reminded to affirm members and show appreciation and thank them for their faithfulness in giving back to the Lord. He has recently written a book called, 'Victors in the Midst of Strife' where he talks about his experiences in the treasury world.

We were also reminded that the church has technology that will aid treasury in the work it has to do, using the ACMS (Adventist Church Management System) programme which is connected the 7Me app. Sister Sherri Ingham-Hudgins, the director of the Adventist membership Systems at the SDA world headquarters, gave us a talk on ACMS. Anyone can download the 7me app, using it to donate their tithes and offerings, access useful resources, update their personal details and request membership transfers.

Sister Sandra Aguiar, an Account Executive from Adventist Risk Management, made a presentation informing us about Safety Sabbath and the importance of running fire drills in our local churches on a regular basis and being able to vacate the buildings in a prompt, safe and timely manner.

We were also updated on cyber security, by presenter, Michael Hopewell, to be ever mindful that there are hackers out there who want to wreak havoc on our computer programs, being a church does not exempt us.

The Treasurers and the Church Clerks each had their own break-out sessions. The Church Clerks attended sessions to do with GDPR, ACMS and the Redemptive Membership Review. Other sessions for the Church Treasurers also included Auditing and looking after Church Properties.

Overall, a lot of information was shared with us, treasurers and church clerks. We had some memorable morning devotionals by executive secretaries, Pastor Ben Pontanar (Irish Mission) and Pastor Nathan Stickland (South England Conference). Pastor Ian Sweeney, Trans-European Division Field Secretary and Public Affairs & Religious Liberty Director, was our main speaker, he talked about the widow's mite, transparency, humility and returning what is due to Caesar and returning what is due to God. As a result of all the presentations, we came away better informed. The work we do is important and we pray that God will continue to bless us as we work in His vineyard.
